What engine oil to use?
Hey guys I have a 05 250 and I'm going to give her an oil change. The first one since I have owned her. I heard changing oil is super crucial for the 6.0 every 3-5k.
Any thoughts of what I should use? A lot of ppl say synthetic but thr truck has 175k miles on her and I'm afraid thw seals won't hold it in.

It will handel it, I was in the Pocanos with -25f it started fine Motor craft filters are at Walmart and so is Rotella, Delo, GTX I can go on me I use Rotella or moble one, which eve is on sale

Motorcraft filters are fine to go with? Nothing better or worse the extra money.

Racor makes them for Ford, they are re boxed and are the ONLY filter to use. Make sure you have the factory oil cap too. Somewhere there a video in the stickies up top that shows you why you have to use it

Ok thank you for all your help. I had a guy telling me to use 1540 oil but I'll take your word on it. It's great I can get everything at walmart

The filter is $19.00 and Rotella is on sale I think for $21.00 a gallon,so ya buy 4 gallons and 2 qts are left over for next time and then you only have to buy 3 gallons. It works out in the long run if you drive a lot

So the cat elc I'm guessingis caterpillar. Why are you going with the cat? Also where can I find it. I apologize for all the questions I just want to take care of my truck.

Yes, cat elc is caterpillar extended life coolant. It's a spec that some coolants meet, you don't need to buy cat brand. I used Peak final charge brand, which meets it.
There is a "tall" oil filter cap that comes with off-brand oil filters. You absolutely do not want one of those. Post a pic of your engine bay (or a few!) and folks here will chime in with anything that jumps out at us as being wrong or looks a little not right, etc.

I went to a shop and they wanted 1800 to do the delete by welding the cooler shut. Sounded steep to me. The egr us unplugged on the engine right now. That's how I got it so idk if I should plug it back or not.

You might want to try to find Rotella T6 0W40 for the winter, but 5w40 T6 is good year round.
