Dennis Carpenter door weather striping
Yesterday I started replacing the weather striping on the doors of my 79 F350 , I cut a sample of the old weather strip to compare it to the new and the new weather strip is quite a bit skinnier than the old stuff, both are hallow but the old stuff is almost 1/3 bigger in size. Is this normal ? will this new smaller weather striping seal up properly?

You may need to do some adjusting. Or tie a piece of nylon rope to a rod and pull it through. I had tons of fun with mine. Unfortunately, all vendors get the shape close and fail to execute the details. I find this with almost anything aftermarket or repro. I blame obama. With some elbow grease, they will seal.

I bought the same stuff from JBG and the fit and quality was exceptional. What a difference door and window seals make.

It has been stated several times that LMC rubber does not last for some reason. Carpenter evidently has fords tooling and recipe for the rubber. Also herd graveyard has quality rubber so I bought from them. The rear window seal I got from carpenter felt like Good heavy rubber, better than JBG imho. Just my $ 0.02 ...

I tried the JBG inexpensive kit for the doors and had nothing but problems with it. The rubber was too stiff and difficult to work with. On the basis of good reviews ordered the DC set and it was by far higher quality. The rubber is much more pliable and I was actually able to get the doors to close

As a post-review, now after a few month the rubber did compress a bit and doors close nicely now.

Unfortunately, I purchased the LMC door and window seals as well. I have yet to install them, or remove them from the plastic even, so there may be a chance I can return them. Can you explain further why they suck, other than the door doesn't sit right? Are they loose? Too tight? Not cut right?
The formula and supplier for rubber and soft plastic doesn't hold up to UV light and heat. .. they crack and split over a very short time... one member IIRC, had to replace his front and rear seals in two years. I bought some inner fender to cab seals and fenderwell shields and noticed something laying under my truck.. I picked it up, looked at it, and realized what it was... it had crumbled, split, and finally tore from its own weight!
So, skip all rubber and soft plastic products from LMC. Yeah, sometimes they send DC-labeled parts but why take the chance???
