us $5500 too much

I'm asking cause I'm looking at a 1995 f150 short bed 4x4 with a 5 speed 300 4.9l with 96k orginal miles. Nice new wheels and tires. It has rust above the wheel wells on the bed. Needs radious arm bushings, has a small exhaust leak, few tears on the red interior and needs a new radio. He wants $5500 for it. Is that too much? I live in southern Missouri.

To much IMHO. $3500 is the highest I would be expect and its also a not extended cab. His value is excessively high.

What is the KBB value?

I bought almost the same truck - except mine was a 1996 Eddie Bauer w/long bed - with the same miles for $4000 last year, and I think I overpaid. I did it because it was virtually rust free (just started at the wheel wells) and up here in Michigan, that means a lot. Mine did not have new wheels or tires though. I paid $800 for new tires shortly after the purchase. Above is mine the day I bought it home. Let me be clear - When I say I overpaid, I mean value-wise. If I was more patient, I probably could have found a very similar one for $1000 less. Having said that, to me, it was a great deal, and I do not regret it one bit. I couldn't be happier with it. But yours is another $1500 tacked on to my price, so I think that's just too high - especially in Southern Missouri. Aren't most of the trucks mostly rust free anyways?

Asking what a truck may be worth on the internet is sure to get you a few opinions, but my opinion is that it may be the most useless exercise you can try.

Is $5500 too much? Yes, if you are the buyer and no if you are the seller.

Ask yourself a couple questions.

- Is this the truck I want?
- Can I find another one, same package and what is the price? Great deals come around once in a while, but don't expect them to set any benchmarks for price.
- Will the truck need any maintenance and/or restoration? What would the cost of such work run to? Be realistic. If it does not need work, factor it into the price and don't discount it.
- What is the alternative? New trucks are $60K.

Don't get fooled into thinking that certain options are going to make a huge difference in value. A Lariat package is nice, but rubber floormats on a Custom or XL are a lot friendlier in a work truck. Extended cab is nice if you need the room. Same with a long box, but there is an undeniable sporty appeal to a regular cab shortbox. Ultimately, the value is what you, or someone else is willing to pay for it.

That is way too high. 300/M5OD/4x4s are a dime a dozen around here, I wouldnt think it would be extremely different in MO. I cant say I would pay $5500 for one with 1/2 the mileage that one does, no rust, beautiful condition. Also, if your looking for a sporty short bed, look for one with the 302. If your willing to sacrifice the manual trans, look for a 351. 351s however, are not very common in short beds but they are out there if you look hard enough

Overpriced here(and I am in the rust belt)
That would be a 2000-2500 truck.

Different story if it didn't have the rust. Then it would be a 4k truck, but you would have to sit on it a while to get that. But being just an XL hurts its value

Also, not sure where you were looking to come up with a 3500-4000 but when I looked it up as GOOD CONDITION(since it has RUST, needs radius arm bushings, exhaust leak, ripped seat and broken radio) it comes up as $2300

It might be the owner is looking to get 4k for it but priced it at 55 knowing the issues and is taking that into consideration so he's anticipating being knocked down. If you want the truck hit him at 35 to 4k see what he says.

With rust over the rear wheel wells, I wouldn't go over 3,000. Most body shops want at least 2k to fix them the right way.

Thx guys for all the help. Besides all the "it's dumb to ask this question on the Internet posts". All of your opinions reassured me of my speculation. It's a clean truck with 2 rust spots and only 2 scratches. It's a solid truck. Besides the red interior it's everything i want. I'm a fan of the 4.9l 300 i6. I mean it's .1L short of 5.0 L v8. I'm feeling 4500 is a good price.

a fool and his money are soon parted

i think deep down they are asked because it's fairly obvious to the one asking the question, that they are about to overspend and as a rule "spenders" (as apposed to savers) often seek help in justification in over spending.when they don't get it,they'll still over spend so i guess the hopes are that they will get at least one other over spender to help in making them feel better about their unwise decision making, driven by desire rather than reason.this way with at least one other willing (or at least saying so) to over pay well past book (double + in this case) it will somehow help them by knowing they are not alone in unwise purchases, therefore it's not so bad as being the only one making them.

i got "these" threads figured out and know before i type it will probably fall on deaf ears.
we just know we're always helping out many other readers though Brad, that's why it's still important to voice our opinions.

as am i.besides the diesel, this is the engine of choice for me of the era.just know the type of money your about to put down will buy a "decent" diesel truck of the era instead is all.
sure, you might reply: "but i don't need a diesel truck!" but really your mindset should be instead of that impulse response this instead: "i don't need a diesel truck,so therefore i shouldn't need to pay as much for a more affordable and commonly 300-6 quipped one".
but you feel the price is justified and your going to go buy it.hope she lasts you a good long while.

Hey bud I bought my truck from no place other than Ozark MO! From Ron at auto adoption agency! I looked and looked and looked and when I saw this one pop up I called off work and drove 350 miles to buy it! I would say given the rust and miles is a little over priced but if you want it go for it. I saw mainly 2-4k trucks that had problems. This one had zero rust or leaks and had 44k original miles w new 31" tires XLT so I wasn't letting it go! Paid $6100 for the old beaut
