1986 351W emissions removal?

Alright so I finally have my fourth bronco...hussaah!

It is the oldest of the group at 86 and as such, the first I have owned that has had a carb system.

So down here in SC we have no emissions or safety checks....(good and bad) and I am sitting here with a pristine 1986 351W in this ford Bronco and from what I can tell is has 90% of its emission...minus anything to do with the exhaust as the previous owner had a true dual system installed.....what to do?

Should I attempt to replace all this cracked and trash rubber to keep it as close to stock as possible...or do I rip a bunch of stuff out?

Truth be told, I was planning on replacing this carb anyways and maybe should just go with an aftermarket one?

Really looking for some direction as this weekend will be the start of my goal of perfection for this Bronco.

Is the stock carb. a 2 barrel or 4 barrel? If it is a 2 barrel, it is probably computer controlled and changing it to an aftermarket carb. (assuming 4 barrel) will require an ignition change to a non-computer controlled ignition.

If it runs good, I would leave it alone and replace any bad hoses.

Well its a 4 barrel and the only electronic connection to it is for the therm choke. I got a little farther into it and the smog pump has been completely bypassed and it is actually only half connected. At this point I am leaning towards pulling it out and replacing the carb since it seems to be having leak issues as well

WHY are you so determined to replace the carburetor? A rebuild kit is only about $35, and that should take care of the leaks.

The stock Motorcraft/Holley 4180 you have on your truck is a great carburetor. In fact, that is the same carburetor that the 1983 - 1985 Ford Mustang GT used. It is rated at 600 cfm for good performance and it has annular discharge boosters for better fuel atomization and that results in better fuel economy.
