Would that even work on a 78' f150?

Oh, ok. They are the same. Except the pedals are different. And the transmission covers are different. And the transfer cases are different as the 80's used mainly the NP208. Oh, yes, and apparently the driveshafts are different as all of the 1980 and one shafts were designed in 1980 or later - as shown here: F150 4wd Driveshafts - Gary's Garagemahal

What kind of updates? They are available, so do you mean how many have been sold?

Is it a kit now? Or is it just the adapter?

Ask Tim. But I know he makes the adapters and drills 400 flywheels to accept 460 pressure plates. And, I think he has the place bolts to bolt the flywheel through the adapter to the crank. And, with those pieces you can use a 460 clutch kit and bolt s ZF5 up to a 400.

In a way that's a kit, but it doesn't have instructions so it is a box of parts.

It's a kit.
If you search the forum or google, you'll find a lot of talk about it, and the link to buy the kit.
