1989 Ford Bronco No Spark

Alrighty fellas,

trying to get this bronco that we just purchased started has the 4.9 L6 in it with the 5 speed trans. Replaced the fuel pumps (both high and low pressure), replaced the clutch, replaced the master brake cylinder, the master clutch cylinder, slave cylinder, new clutch kit, and new starter solenoid.

Car will turn over but wont start. Lead to believe that there is no spark. Also after a while the fuel pump sounded like it wasnt kicking in. Does that mean the fuel pump is already pressurized? Or is my relay bad? Also the ignition coil is getting 12 volts to it so I dont think that is going bad. Any help?

You need to verify what is missing, spark or fuel...perhaps both.

Just replaced the fuel pump relay, no we dont get spark. just tested the PIP and the TFI module, seems to be functioning fine. the cap and rotor are fine, replaced the ignition coil. still no spark.

How did you test the PIP and ICM?

If the PIP is sending a signal to the ICM and the ICM is pulsing with no spark then try disconnecting the computer (PCM ).

You can test the fuel issue by putting some ether in the airbox.
If it starts then the issue is fuel related.
If not it might be a spark issue, timing issue, sparkplug wiring issue.

figured it out. If you take the PIP out, and take an ohmmeter to it, you can test it to factory spec, if not, then its a bad PIP. Replaced that and ended up needing to replace the ignition coil as well. Now it starts up but has a rough idle, will speed up and slow down, even stall. Tried cleaning the EGR, which seemed to help a little but then kept doing the same thing. Also the clutch seems to not disengage correctly. You can see my issue in the other thred just recently posted.
