Anyways on the build thread front I found and received the jumper cables for my truck so now I can jump cars with out the need to mess about under the hood! However the cables on the truck plug look to be 4GA and the cables that are on the jumper side are 2GA so I hope that won't cause an issue (the total amps is well under the 600A rating for the plug)

Well as an early bday gift for my self I got the items for the A/C mod to shut off the hotwater to the heater core!

Heater valve is AutoZone part number 5968 (74859) Everco by four seasons pics are below!!

ok, here is an update to the build, I got a 4 port heater valve installed instead of the single, I know it may not make much difference but meh I wanted the water flow to return...



next will be to plan the routing of the vac line which is going to be a PITA I bet but at least the worst (i hope) is done....

anyways here are the pics, first is the tools I used, NOTE: the RED package of clamps (as prescribed by the original mod author/post DID NOT work for my truck, if you have a E99 you may need the GREEN package (the next step up) of hose clamps to work properly!!

The valve installed, sorry, didn't take any pictures hooking things up as it should be pretty self evident as to where things will go, however I am a bit concerned that I may have put the valve too far forward, and should maybe have placed it closer to the heater core for more room for the vac piece on the valve...(thoughts??)

well I have gotten the valve in as pictured, but decided to wait on the vac line install as I want to use my brothers air temp device for HVAC and get some good reading of the vents before the mod (which I think were about 60*), I also started looking into the hutch and harpoon mod as well

 

What's the purpose of installing this valve?

 

It shuts off the water going to the heater core allowing the A/C to work better. Some of us just install a ball valve and manually turn it off, but this valve actually works like the valve in most other vehicles.

 

And, it works like the valve that is actually installed by the factory on crew-cab models, and later years, I believe.

My 2001 Supercab didn't have a heater-core shutoff, so I added a stainless steel ball-valve that I swing over every spring and fall

 

My 02 Crew Cab didn't have it either. Like you, I have a shutoff valve. I think the Expeditions were the only ones that had a water shut off valve.

 

I thought they actually put them in after a certain point - '03? Don't remember, it's 2015, and my 2001 is 15 years old in October ... LOL

 

Ford put the single valve in all there rangers and Mazda B series trucks (i forget exactly when they started but I think they did all years from about 96 up.

as for the valve the quad valve IIRC is all Excursions (due to size configuration which to me is pure BS but what ever) and from 03/04 up on the super duties and I believe possibly same years on the F150...it just depends what type of truck it was for which valve you got, IIRC the single cab trucks (Mazda B series/rangers and F150 (possibly others) got the single while the larger trucks were equipped with the quad valve however some trucks receive the quad valve even though they were the ranger/Mazda B series trucks, not sure if it was a design change or a test type thing Ford/Mazda did at one point....Yes I rechecked the parts computer at my parts house and they show both valves for certain ranger platforms and various trucks

How did your AC work afterwards? Noticeable difference? Seems like a very simple upgrade, might give it a try.

I havent had the oppertunity to really do much yet as I want to borrow my brothers temp gauge (digital HVAC set up) and test a before and after before I go cutting any vac lines or anything like that, at the moment the truck is getting the main trans pump seal replaced (im also having all other accessible seals done while the trans is out also so I don't have to mess with it for another 40K (hopefully)

 

well I just got the seal for the pump for the transmission, also pickeed up a front seal kit and all that so I can have the other accessible seals done at the same time too...

also found a minor head gasket leak so I am debating on if I should do them now or wait...

 

well good news is the truck is in the shop being fixed, also having other known failure prone seals replaced while the trans is out (would have done all this my self but dont have a large enough garage to fit the truck nor the proper gear to lift/lower the trans either....

anyways I am missing her badly, and still in need of a name for the truck...
