Question 351W New oil pan and gasket has leak.

Hey folks,

I been working on my 5.8L out of a 95 F-150. I primed the oil pump the other day now I got a oil leak. I put a Dorman oil pan and Felpro one piece gasket. It has a slow oil leak that builds up and drips from the rear part of oil pan. Here is a picture.

I did not use any RTV on the pan or block. I did how ever put a little dab on the parts that have the 90 degree joints. Should I RTV the rest of the pan up? Buy another gasket and try again? Buy another oil pan lol?

I have all ready tried unbolting the pan and cleaned both the oil pan and gasket.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I do not want to stick a leaking engine in to have to pull it out again.

The way the camera took the picture it looks like The gasket is crooked but it looks perfect from all angles.

Since the Felpro gaskets specify no RTV, and you already are suspicious of that small amount that it had, if it was me, I would try another gasket.

I contacted Dorman, They said it's probably a warped pan ect... I'm gonna have to replace it. I never really had good luck with Dorman parts.

I been looking at the Moroso MOR-20520 for the replacement. Going to have to use a 9mm shell casing the plug the dipstick hole in the block and use a threaded type dipstick. Overall I hope a more expensive oil pan will cure that oil leak issue.

I posted on the lightning forums to see what else might be needed before purchasing.

Gasket, oil pickup tube ect... Not sure if the factory one will work. But I think it will the dimensions of the rear sump compared to the factory are both 9 inches.

Just to add, I also used that same gasket on my current truck and mine leaks in the exact same spot, I did not use silicone.

Not sure why, but I'm not pulling the engine out to reseal it.

Leaves a spot about the size of a quarter overnight on the concrete.

Hopefully you have better luck with that gasket, I'm pretty disappointed with this felpro.

Are you trying a different brand oil pan or are you going to try another dorman?
