87 Bronco 2 dies when AC turned on

Working on my Bronco 2 for the 1st time today. Had some hiccups (no dip stick tube if anyone has a spare to sell). But I noticed when I first started it the day I got it it immediately died. Will run after hitting the gas a few times. I was originally thinking fuel pump. But when I tried the A/C today the truck immediately died. heater does not work. I knew this truck would be a project so I'm not to stressed. Any ideas on the dying with AC on issue?

If you give it some throttle & the AC works normally, I would try cleaning the IAC/idle air control valve. The IAC is supposed to kick the idle up a bit to compensate for the extra load of the AC.

Ill try that. The AC does not work but I knew that when I purchased it. Whole truck dies the moment you hit the AC button though. Thanks for the advice

I should have a spare dip stick if you are close to south central ks. If not you might check your local salvage yard or car-part.com.

I appreciate that Happy but I have the dipstick. I need the tube it slides into. Nowhere around here has one.

On that note the truck seems to have issues starting cold. Turns over then dies. Requires some revving to get it to stay and a parked idle. Can't seem to figure it out but it almost seems like the truck isn't getting enough fuel at the start which requires the revving.

Cleaned out the IAC valve, still the same issue. Truck needs the have some gas for a couple minutes before it will idle without dying. Once it warms up it idles normally. But it takes awhile to get to that point. Any suggestions would be great.

Update, fuel filter, plugs, and wires have all been changed. Same issue. Runs great and idles normal when warm, dies immediately when first turned over unless foot on gas.

88 & newer b-2s and Rangers have a check engine light to let the driver know there is a trouble code stored in the ECM/computer. The codes can be very helpful for finding a problem.

Whenever I have a problem with my 87 Ranger I do 3 quick and simple tests:

1 Check for trouble codes

2. Screw on a fuel pressure gauge and check the fuel pressure

3. Test with a vacuum gauge.

If none of these tests are helpful for figuring out the problem, the truck goes to Castners auto repair in Yorba Linda, Ca.

Forgot to mention that I scanned thru the 99 trouble codes in my Actron code scanner book and unless I missed it there are no trouble codes for a bad IAC. I guess the ECM/computer doesn't monitor the IAC to see if it has a problem.

Sometimes cleaning the IAC will fix idle problems, sometimes it needs replaced.

But b4 I replaced anything I would do the 3 tests I mentioned.

I pulled the ACT and it was black and corroded. Hoping that may be something when I replace it tomorrow.
