Blown head gasket, maybe?
#16
Thanks for the help, everyone!!
For the record, I pulled these numbers off the engine:
Block - D9AE-6015-ED-23
Intake - D7DE-9425-RD (or maybe -BD)
Heads - D80E-AB (both)
Both heads had a "77" cast inside next to the valve spring, and both had a "3" as well. One had "3A11" and the other "3A12" in there as well.
I don't think any of these items are especially rare or desirable, but hopefully this block is a good place to start.

The C9s are stud rocker, your E7s were pedestal, right?
The C9s do not have hardened seats, the E7s do.
Combustion chambers might be a little smaller, but not so much as to be a problem.
Get an estimate on all the work you need, plus the pushrod thing and compare:

If you're going to drive it a lot, then you'll need hardened seat installed in those. The chambers are 10 ccs smaller than the D8OE heads, so you'll get a boost in compression with those. Make sure they deck surfaces are checked and checked for cracks all over. Have the Thermactor bumps removed from the exhaust ports too
