front bearing question

it feels like I am having a front bearing issue, when turning the steering wheel to the right I feel a slight vibration in the steering,, can someone please let me know witch one is going out,??? I have already replaced the passenger side twice It just seems to not tighten completely as I can still move the tire slightly while up on a jack,,

Wheel bearings always have a little play - you can't get rid of it. If its not making noise its okay.

you might look closer at the ball joints.

When shaking the Wheel left to right with your hands, its checking for loose balljoint play. When shaking the wheel top and bottom, its checking for wheel bearing.

I would check for leaking shocks, sometimes the bearing on the strut mount could be bad as well.

new ball joints

both upper and lower ball joints have been replaced less then a month ago with MOOG PARTS with a lifetime warranty,, I am thinking the slight vibration I am feeling more when turning the steering wheel slightly too the right may be the passenger side and it has no movement at all,, any ideas,,

You meant to say tie rods, right?

Could be ply separation, could be bent rim or hub, could be on either side. Only way to see is jack up and spin. Place a can on the ground next to the tire to check for bent rim or hub and behind the tread to check for ply separation but that is usually easy to see without it.

Not true on the newer hub/bearing assemblies. They should be tight less than 4 thousandths(generic spec, I'm sure it differs by vehicle) of play. The old packable bearings would usually have slight movement, less than 1/8 inch.

In general:
Up and down balljoints or wheel bearing
Side to side tie rods or wheel bearing
Diagonally wheel bearing
Different suspension set ups require the ball joints checked in different ways (loaded/unloaded) for official safety inspections.
Of course it is always best to have a helper look or shake tire/wheel while you do the other. That way the movement can be seen or felt for verification.

But you don't replace a wheel bearing for play alone unless its so bad it affects the alignment. You replace it because of the noise from the bad bearings. This guy's problem is not the wheel bearing in the first place.

I replace hub assemblies because they are a safety related item. Brakes will still stop metal to metal but why risk it? A hub/bearing assembly will probably start making noise before it gets bad enough to come apart but if the play is already out of specification, why wait? It's not like a mechanical item can heal itself.

he put a new bearing/ hub on the truck and the tire "still wiggles".......... so he has a bad ball joint or tie rod ends.. Needs to know how to test each component visually.
