"You know it's Time to Sell your Truck when"......

Its time to sell when you break the last remaining part available to put it back on the road ( unless its steel/ aluminum and I can make one myself). I am about to making it myself on manual lockouts for my F350 - noone claims to fit dual rear wheel applications with the wheeltrack spacer.... perhaps a small mod to the wheeltrack spacer is in order.

The time to sell him was about $20,000 ago... too late. I'll put Stinky nose-to-nose with a 2015 6.7L that cost $70,000, though.

I think the term can work, affectionately of course, it can refer to the approaching precipice of the cliche slippery slope of funneling money into the vehicle hoping that this $1500 infusion will be the last for 6 months so we can feel better about avoiding a $700/mo payment on something new/er.
My personal position turned out to not necessarily be about avoiding the $700 payment, but avoiding that payment while also incurring the $1500 BS expenses that my friends have encountered with the newer diesels.
So my solution.....was an honest conversation with myself about what I tow and my lifestyle....I tow 5000-8000lbs of horses and gear/women.....I need a heavy truck to ensure a smooth ride for the beasts and I like the overbuilt brakes and frames on the 3/4 ton rigs. I also need minimal exposure to big repairs that would put me down for the count towing during the show season.
This lead me to realize the 6.4L Hemi with 410hp/429 ft lbs was more than enough for me.....quiet, refined etc. and then I grabbed a 8 year 70,000 bumper to bumper extended warranty on it....plus the 100K drivetrain warranty and I pray I don't need them. Picked up one of the nicest examples of a 2014 with 17K miles and so far have been impressed.
That isn't to say I disliked my 7.3......quite the contrary, I loved it but rust was going to kill that truck and my wallet from the top down. So I sold high while I could.....that body was 2-3 years away from being a total mess, my bed rails were already junk etc.
Love FTE and will hang around and bother everyone for a while as I feel home here .....

Too funny! I never knew how expensive horses were until my daughter started to ride. Needless to say, I cant afford a new truck.
Having said that, I wouldn't trade the experience for the world. It's something you cant put a price tag on.
My apologies for the equine thread drift...
