Loss of power and stinks?

I am posting this for my uncle. He was pulling his fiver to the beach yesterday with his 2011 f-350 6.7. He lost power, the truck got very loud, and there is a very strong stale kerosene smell in the cab. Strong enough to require the windows be down for ventilation. He was able to limp on into the campground and has an appointment with the dealership Monday. The truck has 19,000 miles and is still covered under the extended warrenty. Any one want to play arm chair quarterback? Any idea what went wrong?

There were issues with the exhaust gas recirculating fittings and flex joints back then, I think there is a tsb about it. Back in 2010/11 there were several exhaust leaks under the hood.

EGR or one of the sensors for the DPF causing eternal regen.

Also wasn't there an issue with the downpipe? Seems like that was discussed often enough back then.

Okay - I'll play. My guess? Cold side CAC tube. I have seen several of them melt - derivative of a plugged aftertreatment system brought on by a loose EBP sensor tube fitting combined with high load operation such as pulling a landscape trailer, loaded dump body or a 5th wheel trailer for example. Can cause excessive EGR backflow into the tube through the throttle body during high load conditions and EGR flowing.

The CAC tube blew out on my 2011 F350 as well...scared the crap out of me, I thought it was the turbo.

We have a winner. Ruptured egr tube. Will not know if it has any more problems till the new tube is put on.

Kerosene smell could also be contaminated fuel. Let's hope not, it's a warranty buster.
