I've been looking at a job3 2008 6.4. It's on a Ford lot, I drove the truck Wednesday and it drives and runs great. Warranty history is just a radiator replacement 10,000 miles ago. It already has the cats and DPF and muffler deleted. I would have done that anyway. The problem is that there is no tuner visible. I assume there is a program loaded on the computer that deleted the regen cycles. The issue is I do knot know what the previous owner used and I do not have the tuner in case I ever need it. I have no way to put the truck back stock if I had to. I am in a no emissions area but you never know what can change. If I had to could I purchase a new tuner and install it or would the computer have to flashed back to stock first? It has a Bullydog air intake so that may be the brand he used. Advice??
Yup, if dealership won't contact previous owner to get the tuner used, then your going to have to have Ford flash it with stock program and then flash it with your new tuner's custom tune.
It did not throw any codes. They have no idea what programmer was used and they don't have any of the stock exhaust. If I ever got in a bind and needed to go back stock to pass emissions I would be screwed. I walked away.
The big deal would come if I failed our "visible" emissions inspection and had to go back stock to pass. I would have nothing to go back stock with. Not to mention if NC were to change to full emission testing.
You said you drove it? Wouldn't it have thrown a code had a tuner not have been somewhere, or does it only happen when a regen cycle is needed?
Once the tune is in the truck the tuner can be disconnected and stored(with H&S anyways). The tune is then in the main computer and all the tuner does is give you the ability to change tunes or display parameters of the truck that you want to keep track of.
