Yes, do both. As I recall, the seats cost $2.50 apiece and millinging/install is another $2.50. Once the block is set up to mill one, it's not a lot of work to do them all. Adds maybe $100.

Good advice about the hardened seats; I had no idea.

I'll add it to the list. Should I do both intake and exhaust?

Oops. They DEFINETLY ARE rotator valves. I had to do more research to figure out the difference.

Does it make a difference?

Not really, just have to make sure if you need any new parts that they are the correct type. It does signify your engine is late-'50 or newer.

Maybe that is the cost in NM, but I wouldnt be suprised if the price is a bit higher in NY. I have a 350 at a machine shop as we speak

This is a cool flathead build, but I just wanted to ask what your goals are? You say you like HP, but isnt a stock flattie 100HP? How much can you get out of one and keep civilized manners? I know zip about them, I always sell them off and go with easy modern HP, but I may build one for an open engine light weight car.

Yes, I like HP, but I decided after much research here and on other forums that I don't really want to do that to this particular engine. I will keep the engine close to stock and change out the rear end instead. I know that the flathead 8 is a popular block for hot rodders, but I believe that they put them in a light stripped down car, not a heavy pickup truck. (I could be wrong about this-I am new to this after all-so be kind!!)

Anyway, alot of this is exploring the options out there. I didn't know what a Restomod was, or a Darksider or Lightsider, until about a week ago. I am enjoying the ride almost as much as I am enjoying working on the truck.

I would still look for a block without cracks that need sleeving. If you start with a good block, you can overbore a few times. My flatty is .080 over with a merc crank so 268 c.i. now. If you go with a little better cam, use Lincoln zepher valve springs. My flatty in Ontario Canada cost about $5k, includes Mallory dual point dist. Schneider 268 cam, offy heads, block relieved, spin on oil filter, etc. I will have it on a dyno later this year, hope for 150-170 hp. I am running a holly 500 2 barrel on a polished merc intake. It sounds like 500hp!
