Dome Light '60 F-100

I am trying to fix the dome light and I have already replaced the bulb. It still isnt working. Any suggestions on what to try next? Is there a fuse for it? Common place for wire issues?

Welcome to FTE

Yes there's a fuse for it, but there's only four or maybe five for the entire truck, probably notice other problems if it were blown. A test-light is handy here to work around the circuits and see what has voltage. Fuse holder is attached to the headlight switch during this era, but not for sure on a '60 - you should probably take a dozen or so more pictures, I dunno, of your truck and post them here so we can be sure, and give you the best help possible.

How do I know what fuse does what? I haven't notice anything else not working, maybe the left and right air ***** but to be honest I don't know what those are suppose to do.

I will take some more pictures this weekend.

Probably a really dumb question but when is the dome light suppose to come on? Only when the door opens? Is there another way to turn it on? Sorry for all the questions but the only old car I have any experience on is a '78 MGB. And I was just helping my dad.

Not a dumb question at all. Unless some previous owner modified the truck with plunger or bayonet switches in the door jambs either the Bpost or the Apost your interior light will not come on when the door is opened. The headlight switch usually moves one way or the other to turn on the interior light. Pull out for headlights and park lights. Turn right or left to get interior.

Maybe that was an extra cost option, but a dome light that illuminates upon opening a door isn't how they work in a 60s Ford pickup. Try rotating the headlight switch CCW.

One thing that will clear up a few things is to pick up an operator's manual for 1960, they are no BS, condensed information for stuff like that and more. Reprints are around $10 or $15; I would suggest a Ford Shop Manual as well.

The old pickups are cool yes, but they require preventive maintenance and inspection and servicing for safety and performance and reliability. It's not for everybody.

Just got really excited and ran out to try it but my headlight switch just spins. Could something have come disconnected.

I will be oredered some manuals in the next week or so.

Eh, something could have broken. Maybe the 1960 model is different? I dunno. If you need a new switch they are probably hard to find, sort of expensive or both.

Is there a diagram that says what each fuse controls?

I haven't had mine apart or changed a fuse in the last 25 years but I seem to recall there is small printing next to each fuse to identify it..

Do you have a way to check for power? A meter or a test light? I am pretty sure fuse block is marked as Hiball said. I think the dome light is on the same fuse as front parking lights?

I looked at my 57 service lit and there is a fuse on the back of the headlight switch for the interior light. I don't know if the 57 headlight switch is the same as the 60. All I can tell you is what is in the 57.

50 year old bulb contacts are usually corroded some degree. Scuff, clean, or just wiggle the bulb. Try that first. Test for voltage right at the socket.

I have not picked up a parts manual yet, so what is the part number for a head light switch for a 60 F-100? I noticed that LMC sells every year but 60.
