It's old and needs some work, but my wife and I wanted something that we could pay cash for until we got some bills out of the way in the next few years. This is our 19' 1977 Layton. I've been fixing it up and I am impressed how well built it is and how well it has held up being 30+ years old. The only thing that doesn't work is the fridge...broke on our first trip. We are used to ice chests anyway, so oh well.
Our next one will definitely be at least '25 and have a bunkhouse for our two girls. However, we have had lots of fun with it since we bought it 6 months ago and that is the important part. My four year old thinks it's hers since we bought it on her birthday and she always wants to "camp" in it parked out in the field behind the house.

My little 19' (around 4k lbs) drops my V10s mileage 1 or 2 MPG, to around 8 or 9 MPG. But that is usually towing it in the Sierra Nevadas and sometimes on windy steep dirt roads for the last few miles. I also tow with the fresh water tanks full and an extra 25 gallons in the truck as we dry camp or boondock everywhere. I'm curious to know what the guys with the nice big 5th wheels get. I love my V10, but if I was to tow some of these bigger rigs long distances or on a "full time" basis I would be looking for a diesel.

My lie-o-meter shows around 10.2. Haven't run through an entire tank with the camper on yet to get an accurate hand calc. That's running with the cruise set to 65. Trailer is supposed to be 9600 dry. Have not gotten it over a scale yet but I'm going to guess loaded it'll be closer to 11k. Also my trailer is only 12' to the a/c, not as tall as some.
