99 f-250 7.3lt ECM question

Is it possible to wipe clean and then reprogram, to a new vehicles profile, the ECM at all? If so, will any year from this same time period, 99 - 03 or must the ECM be of the same year?

Thanks - Napè

What is it you're hoping to accomplish by doing that?

My 99 7.3 has a sick computer. So my mechanic says. I have a friend with a 2001 7.3 and he will give me his computer. Is it possible that his will work in my truck if it is reprogrammed to my Vin number configuration?

I believe it will work without reprograming.

Correct. No reprogramming necessary for an 01 PCM to go in a 99. Unless your 99 is an auto and the 01 has a manual. In that case, the PCM won't work.

They are in fact both automatics. One is a 350 and mine is a 250. I don't see that there would be any difference in the powertrain between those two.

You should be good to go then.

If you have an E99, you will have a DPC-402 PCM. If you have a L99, you will have a DPC-422 PCM.

The PCM from the 2001 (DPC-422) will work in place of the E99 (DPC-402) or L99 (DPC-422).
