im considering a 2.7 2wd shorty
thinking about picking up a 2.7 ecoboost reg cab 2wd shorty bare bones (
except will need power locks and windows) to replace my 2013 ram 2wd shorty. should a guy wait till they get the 10 speed auto. im in no rush to sell the dodge yet. . how much better on fuel would it be compared to my 4.7 6 speed. I usually get 21 -24 mpg highway with it....

You'll edge out the Ram on mpg depending on how you drive, but it may not be a large enough difference to justify.
I would wait myself for the 10 speed as the 8 speed works well with the 3.6's nature. At least from the couple of times I got to drive one.
Having spent time looking at both for at the time seemed like a certain purchase. There is not much advantage in any one way that sets Ford apart interior wise in a rc form. Now if you compare GM's twins the Ford has a big interior space advantage.
Either way its up to you as its your money, but I would love to toss down coin on that truck. Just with a long bed.

I took a look at the Ford site; the XL regular cab with 5.5' box, 2WD and 2.7 ECOB seems like it would be a fun truck and a total sleeper at the stop light. I would get limited slip diff though. Imagine how that truck would accelerate and handle with the smallest configuration and aluminum body & bed. I'm afraid I should not have looked into that - my '07 is suddenly looking old-fashioned.

As was already mentioned here, I wouldn't expect a significant difference in fuel economy between your Ram and the 2.7L EcoBoost.
The 2.7L is a peach of an engine though to drive, and feels plenty powerful.
10-speed is a way away yet, since it won't debut until probably the 2017 Raptor. So I guess it'd depend on how long you want to wait.

If I was buying a 2015 F150 to replace my 95 5.8 I'd be happy w the 2.7. That being said, I don't think you'll see a savings advantage over your Dodge. The advantage would be going to an American family owned company vs an Italian one. On paper it wouldn't make sense just yet. Buy if you're not beating up, you'd be looking at a good argument for a lease next time around =-)
