Help me if you can, I'm feeling down!

<hr size="1" style="color: rgb(209, 209, 225); background-color: rgb(209, 209, 225);"><!-- / icon and title --> <!-- message --> I've posted this on the Super Duty Forum and am duplicating it here on the advice of 'speakerfritz.' Hoping someone has an answer....

I'm changing out the lash adjusters on my 01 v10. (See https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/13...iton-tick.html)

I'm using the Trick Flow spring compressor tool. Here's a picture of the tool:

I've done all the passenger side but for #5 exhaust. Because it is so far back behind the cowl, it is a real bugger to get to. I cannot see it without a mirror, and I cannot get enough torque on the tool without it slipping off the cam. I have a couple of bloody knuckles to show for my efforts back there....

So here is my question: Can I remove the camshaft bearing caps and bolts and lift the back of the camshaft enough to remove/reinstall the cam follower, and change the lash adjuster, then re-install the caps/bolts without problems? I really do not want to remove the timing chain/timing gear and timing chain cover. But, even more-so, I DO NOT want to open another can of worms!!

My thinking to maintain the cam timing is to temporarily zip tie the chain to the sprocket. Will lifting the rear of the camshaft the required inch or so harm the cam timing gear, timing chain or guide?

OR, if anyone has a different suggestion, I'm open to it!! I'm soon off to do the driver's side, and hoping for some input by the time that is done! I really want to have this one done this weekend!

Thanks in advance!
