Painting a 1994 F-350 in the rust belt

As many of you know there is not much as far as clean trucks here in the rust belt. I have a cclb F-350 that I am looking at getting the rust fixed and a full paint job..

I was in Florida this past week and I saw a two tone infinity something and the paint on it looked really clean. It was a Tan/sand colored on the bottom and then black on the top of the vehicle. It was all flat/matte paint.

I was wondering if anyone knows how this paint would hold up to the elements here in Michigan? I see most vehicles with matte paint are in warmer dry locations (Arizona, Nevada, California) that do not use road salt and have heavy snow.

My truck isn't dually but essentially the same scheme but instead on the HD orange a Sand color in a matte finish. Let me know what you think.

Yeah pretty much just the tan a bit lighter. I don't have any photo editing software. And good free/cheap recommendations?

I'm mostly worried about how practical it is to keep up that type of finish in my area with road salt and snow etc. I don't see many of the nicer trucks on here with it so maybe there's a reason besides preference?

I use this editor
Paint.NET - Free Software for Digital Photo Editing It has a lot of good features for being free.

I also live in the rust belt, and although I have never owned a matte colored vehicle I have heard that they can be hard to clean. As far as how well they hold up to the salt/snow, I'm not sure.

Thanks for the photo editor information! Is your truck pretty clean? How do you keep the rust from starting or continuing besides washing it regularly, keeping the interior clean and dry?

Matte finish is a pain to keep clean

I just power wash it every chance I get, but once the rust starts there is really no way to stop it unless you get rid of it completely. Clean the cab corners and inside the wheel wells really good.

I have heard that POR-15 is a good way to prevent rust, which I'm going to use on the whole underside of my truck when I get to the bodywork.

I do keep my interior really clean and I use rubber floor mats to keep water from soaking into the carpet, but my carpet is already stained bad from the PO.

So in other words not the best thing for a year round dd in my area especially.

Next thing Brad since you're here any recommendations on patch panels or replacement sources? I know people recommend getting old ones because of better metal but again very hard to come by in my area worth saving. And most of the crew cabs here are still used as service vehicles or they, sadly are scrapped.

The ONLY thing I will patch is the cab since you can't get a full replacement.

I REPLACE, bed skins, tailgates, doors, fenders, hoods and rad supports.

I get cab corners from Bronco Graveyard

Okay good information I want to be able to do my own body work like you do some day my college rental garage is not nearly big enough to fit my truck in though. Bronco Graveyard is only like an hour or so away so I will go there once I figure out what I need exactly.

I was wondering if this is about what things should look like as a take-off.
Also, the back doors have a bar going down them I have zero idea what that is or if it's there for a reason. Can anyone clear this up?

Okay, so I got a lead on a replacement crew cab for my truck. From the one picture I was sent it looks pretty good at least better than mine at the moment. I do not know what the underside looks like on the inside. It looks like some of the interior is still there headliner, visors, no key cylinders or anything but I could just reuse mine. Any secret places I should request pictures of?

That is an 83-86 cab

Different than your 92-97 cab but can be made to work if you want to modify the rear doors, seat bets mounts and dash

Man that stinks. It would have been a nice pick up. He only wanted $700 for it. I guess if anyone is in the market for a cab for that body style I can give you information. Its in Michigan.

I'm assuming that those doors are not direct bolt-on for the 92-97 trucks

they will bolt right on. You just need to change out the door glass to work on your 92-97 truck
