multiple degas bottles cracking

Has anyone else experienced degas bottles cracking? I have been through at least 2 napa and 2 ford in 2 years. all of them have failed along a reinforcement rib on the bottom above the outlet. new caps at the same time on all of them. never puked. the napa ones failed within months of each other. the ford one that just failed was replaced with a napa one again which lasted 2 months.

again NEVER had a puke.

thanks

Yep probably a manufactureing defect. We bought 10 at one time when I was with the fleet all failed. Bought 12 more from same dealership no failures. Bad production run I guess. Altho I do not know if Ford got them from the same manufacturer.

Mine cracked enough to leak under pressure. It could have been the original, I don't know. I bought the truck with 172k on it, has 183 now.

Is your ICP on the pump or on the passenger valve cover?
If it is on the pump [early04] you may be cracking it yourself working on the ICP.
Done that myself a few times.

I would think if the Napa one's are failing at that rate is there is a defect in the manufacturing process that is causing them to leak

If your having that much bad luck with them I would avoid them and either use Ford ones or find a different vendor to but them from ( You would have to watch out that the next one you buy isn't who manufactured them for napa )

But that is brutal, but at least napa is giving you replacements, but if the replacements arent holding up, then I would just get my cash back and look for some where else for a different one.

I had the same problems with the napa ones on my wife's car. Crack for no real reason, new cap each time. Ended up selling the car.

went thru a couple of ford ones as well. if this napa one fails, I will be getting an aluminum one off ebay. the down time I have in this to go get a new one and change it out each time will have paid for one already.

It kinda looks like those two large bungs on the front of it are sight glasses, but it's hard to tell.

Since the 6.0 normal level is now the min. level I don't see how you'd know where it's at?

Agree completely! I don't know if you just keep it middle of the lower bulls-eye or what. Definitely different for sure.
