Thinking of selling the Amarillo and going to Ecoboost F-150, thoughts?

So, at this point in time I'm debating selling my 2006 Amarillo and going to a 2011+ Ecoboost F-150. I don't really have any use for an F-250, plus dealing with diesel in the winter is becomming a hassel for me. The truck has been solid (bulletproofed, update parts, 4" lift and 35's, 08+ upgrades, etc.) but I think I would be happier with a smoother riding truck with a much nicer interior. I just recently bought the wife a 2013 Flex Ecoboost Limited and it makes my 2006 Amarillo look extremely outdated.

What are your guys' thoughts?

You'll miss the feel of the Superduty the size and overall beefyness but you will love the smoothness of the F150

It's pretty hard to not fall instantly in love with the ecoboost as well.

I don't have the ecoboost personally but we just recently went from a 02 F250 V10 4x4 crew cab short bed to a 2010 F150 5.4L 4x4 crew cab 5.5' bed.

Things I miss about the SD:
The little bit more power from the SD (not much more).
The size of the super duty (not the cab but the overall truck).
the modifacations I had done to the SD.

What I like about the f150:
off the line power
fuel mileage
luxury
cab room (especially backseat)
the ride on the actual roads (does alright on the backroads but the F250 was a little better).
and the miles (not that the F250 had high miles.

The first generation Superduty body style is a timeless body style. It will always look good if you take care of it, especially with the lift kit and tires you have. I think the only reason it looks dated is because you chose a trendy color like yellow. Had you chosen a more timeless color then it would still be interesting.

I got rid of my 2000 Superduty for similar reasons. I just drove it around and it didn't make sense any more. And I was tired of the poor ride quality and tired of the noise of the 7.3L. I also got tired of shifting a manual trans all the time. Pairing a 6-speed manual with an engine that only goes to 3K rpm is just a hell of a lot of shifting. It made sense when pulling, but that was the only time it made sense.

I am definitely happier with the 2012 F150. Ride quality is like a luxury car and it is so quiet with the Ecoboost! The Superduty was uncivil by comparison.

Can't say the interior is nicer. I liked the layout of the Superduty interior and it was really comfy. And it aged very well and looked nearly new after 12 years. The F150 interior is made mostly of organic plant matter. Plastics scratch if anything touches it. Dash pad oozes sticky stuff all summer and I can't clean the dust off until fall when it's not sticky any more. Carpets are really thin and cheap. Cloth seat materials don't seem to be good quality. This F150 is my first vehicle with hands free phone and that feature is cool!!

This generation of F150 has the worst performing HVAC I have ever experienced. That goes for both the AC and defrost. AC is a long wait before it is cold. Once cold it works fine and stays cold. Defrost sucks and no amount of time changes that. It can't melt a popsicle in summer. Sometimes snow comes in to the interior through all the vents. The HVAC is FUBAR and it is like that by design.

Not sure I will get an F150 again. Definitely going to shop around when the time comes. But for now its what I own and I'm going to get the use out of it and do my best to enjoy it. Still don't miss the Superduty.

You could do like me and keep the big truck and add the F-150, this way you can switch between them. Now this doesn't make sense for many people.

These new F-150s are awesome trucks, very smooth and tight. I'm not very fond of the EcoBoost as i have one in my work truck and i just don't like the drive ability as it acts a lot like a turbo diesel. Many love it and it will pull like a freight train if you ask it.

I have not run into the HVAC issues others have had, other then the A/C taking a bit to get things cooled down. Heater works great even in -20F temps, which is the coldest i've seen.

Go test drive and see what you think.

Oh, there is no lack of heat in mine either. It will roast you out. Just can't make that heat do squat to melt ice from the front windshield.

I haven't had any issue, 10-15 mins remote start time and all the windows are clear. Goes for my '11 6.2 or my work '13 Eco, although the Eco takes longer to build heat.

I had an 04 KR CC that I absolutely loved ( still have pics in my Garage ). Problem was the engine, 6.0. Ran fantastic, but it cost me ~$8k in 1 yr in several big repairs. CFO said get rid of it!! It's a shame, if I had a gasser in it I'd still have it. But I love my 150 for different reasons. An OC is like 1/4 the price it was in the 6.0 just for starters. The cost of that and the difference in price from gas vs diesel will put a smile on your face. And I was over the top **** with maintenance on the oil burner also. Good luck in your decision

I'm a big fan of the EcoBoost, especially when it comes to towing or hauling. The F150 is a very nice riding vehicle. On our family outings everyone always want to take the truck.

I just went from a fully mod'ed SuperDuty to a 2014 fully-loaded F150 EcoBoost and couldn't be happier. I still miss the F250 sometimes, but the creature comforts and overall awesomeness of the new truck still gets me through it. I'm already doing a few mods to it to make it mine, and I'm happy with the change. No regrets.

I too went from a 6.0 to an Ecoboost F150.

Nowadays, the f150 suites me better 95% of the time. It was my first 150 after owning SD's for since '99. It's just a great truck, and I'm very happy with it. Tows nice and smooth very similar to the diesel, but you won't get the mpg's most of the time towing.

Yes, my issue is that I don't get to use the capacity of the 6.0 most of the time. The heaviest I've towed with it was a car on an 18' car trailer which I know the F-150 would tow without issue. I do like the truck, but I'm tired of dealing with diesel in the cold. Also, I would just like a nicer truck at this point. I feel the F-150 would suit me better. A car wholesaler that I know went from using 6.0 trucks to using a 2014 Ecoboost F-150 and he said it's way nicer and just works better overall.

Now, my question is what F-150 to get. I know I want an 09-14, and most likely a 2011+ so I can get away from the 5.4 and have some more power. I'm just not sure which model to get. I'm really interested in the 2011 Lariat Limited or possibly a 2013+ FX4 Appearance. Most likely white. What do you suggest?

I towed a 22' enclosed car hauler, a open hauler and my boat with my my truck and had zero issues. I moved my daughter to Kalispel MT and Back Madison WI towing her car and all her stuff. One way with the enclosed trailer and the other with an open trailer. The EcoBoost did a great job, it is a much better towing engine than the Triton 5.4.
I am a fan of the Lariats, this is my 3rd one. The Lariat is a nice step up from the XLT.
When it comes time to sell, the Lariat is desirable so it's easier to get good money on a trade or sale. I do wish I would have gotten the Max Tow Package, I really miss the towing mirrors.
