I have a 2003 6.0 with 120,000 miles. On the first start of every day (regardless of outside temperature) the truck quickly starts and then dies 2-3 times before it stays running. The start is usually accompanied by both white and black smoke that goes away after about 20 seconds. The IPR duty cycle at start up is 85%, but the icp is above 1000 psi and the truck always starts. After it is warmed up, the only problem is a small puff of black smoke under hard acceleration, and the truck starts easily the rest of the day. There is no rough idle, loss of power, etc.

The truck has a brand new FICM, oil cooler, Egr cooler, egr valve, icp sensor, icp pigtail, alternator, batteries, fuel filters, and 8 new injectors. The IPR screen is intact and clean.

Any ideas what could be wrong? Thanks!

 

Are you reading desired ICP, or actual ICPV when it's doing this?

 

Actual icp - it's well over 1000 during cranking and then about 500-600 at idle

 

are you letting the Glo plugs cycle first takes about 2/3 minuets for them to shut off, also make sure the 3 FICM connections are snapped in , those plastic clips brake off and plug could work it's way out slightly or corrosion. Have you Notice any water leaking at the wind shield ?
