Diesel in the Valley (Fuel Bowl Leak)
I have a small fuel leak somewhere on my 2001 PSD.
Two winters ago I replaced the fuel/water drain valve completely with a new part from Ford. At that time it was leaking out the drain line onto the ground, not into the intake manifold valley.
Now, I can't really tell where it is leaking from. The back side of the fuel bowl is wet. The inflow, outflow, and pressure regulator fittings at the bowl are dry. The area between the HPOP and the fuel bowl is dry.
Everything from the back of the fuel bowl and down into the valley is damp, so I can't really tell where it is coming from. It is a slow leak that I suspect only happens as the engine warms up and then stops. I can't see fuel dripping from anything.
Are there any common places I should concentrate on? Is the water drain valve also known to leak externally? How about the fuel bowl heater?
Also, the lip where the bowl filter seals is wet. The filter has a few thousand miles on it and is installed tightly. Are they known to sometimes leak?
Thanks for any pointers. I've ordered a fuel bowl reseal kit from DieselOrings, but I'd like to track it down before throwing parts at it.

They can leak if pinched when reinstalled. Since it has been a few thousand miles it wouldn't hurt to replace it and replace the ring too while you are there. Also if it is installed upside down it will leak as well. You can get past that by cranking down harder on it but you shouldn't need too.
