About a week ago I checked my oil (about 950miles since oil change) and it was well within the full range.
Yesterday I had to add a quart. At the 1,700miles since last oil change.

Seems 5w30 does last longer. But my fuel economy dropped a bit. However it matches with hot weather beginning here in central Florida so I've used A/C and more idling... Hard to be certain.

Mine uses a quart(5w20)every 2000 miles no matter if empty, towing heavy, driving it hard or pampering the pedal. It always has. I just keep a check on it and add as needed. Nature of the beast...doesn't really bother me.

I agree- it doesn't bother me. I'm trying this 5w30 vs 5w20 as an experiment because someone else implied the 5w30 is consumed less.

The only thing that bothers me is that I don't check oil level often enough; so it's common for me to add 2qts. Cringeworthy.

I've ran Amsoil 5W-30, and their EAO-11 Oil filter in mine since I've owned it (at 20k miles). I use a quart every 5,000. Been like that since 1999, when I bought it. I haven't been using mine much the last 3 years, and I notice that I haven't changed the oil in 3 years, but only 3,000 miles! So, I ran the Amsoil engine flush through it (with a new 'crappy' filter), then changed the oil, and put in a new Amsoil filter. No problems yet with oil consumption! After reading this thread, I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.
