100,000 miles and falling apart

Recently turned 100k and since have had my exhaust RTD's go out. While fixing that they found the back radiator leaking. Since then both batteries died which didn't surprise me at 40 months. Then my windshield washer started leaking, then my DEF heater went out and two days ago my AC quit. I was ready to buy a new 2015 but now not sure. I've contacted Ford customer service and they are getting with the dealer to see what they may cover but haven't heard anything back yet. Anyone else have these issues. Mine is a 2011 with 105,000 on it. This is pretty frustrating. I have been very pleased with this truck up until now it has been very dependable. However when that dependability begins to go south at only 100k it brings to question what exactly are we paying for here? A heavy duty truck that costs upward of 60k should be one you can count on for a lot longer than that. How Ford approaches this with me is definitely going to have a direct bearing on which 2015 diesel truck is in my driveway in the next few months. Again let me say that i have been very pleased with this truck and FOMOCO in general.

i had my rad go out at 40K so yours lasted a lot longer than mine.

i wouldn't be too upset about the batteries

where is the windshield washer leaking? i haven't heard of that one yet.

i hope they cover a good chunk of whats going on with your truck. i can understand your frustration i myself would be pretty frustrated if all that came to my attention at once.

Mine has 141,000 mile and yes, I've had to do a few repairs. It's what we do as trucks age.

But for the most part, it has been not too expensive and has been parts I expect to fail. Nothing last forever.

I think back to all the starter motors, water pumps, alternators, U-Joints etc that I replaced on cars/trucks as younger man, And today's trucks are lasting much longer.

Even my 2000 7.3L that everybody ravs about how good a truck they were. Replaced 6 Glow Plugs, Glow plug controller, brakes Clock Spring, VSS in the rear end etc. And I didn't even hit 100,000 miles on that truck. So the few repairs I've done on my 2011 have been with in reason.

For me, I've replaced
Brakes and front rotors at 80,000
Batteries at 100,000
Front Hubs/Bearings at 120,000
EGT sensor at 120,000
Coolant fitting on back of Turbo at 130,000

as well as normal tranny and coolant flushes and oil and filter changes.

Seems like I've had fewer things to fix on my truck in 140,000 miles, than my wife's Infiniti in 60,000 miles

No harm in taking a GM or Ram for a ride when you are ready to purchase. Lots of good product available in the truck market these days. If Ford doesn't make you happy, try something else. There was a recent thread that had great pictures of a very pretty Ram.

It might be time to trade now before any other important and expensive parts break.

I hear ya..106k now. Starter has gone, at 85k A/C evaporator went. $1300. Turbo went at 95K. Dual Disc calipers at 22k front 36k rears. Pad ears rust to the caliper on these years. Truck was 50k and not alot of options.
I fear this is just the beginning of major repairs this next 200k
My 02 F350 7.3 Spoiled me. I had 190k when traded and never had a issue other then normal maintenance. Brake pads, etc. I believe they are making them of poorer quality parts and more expensive to maintain. Not to mention more complicated.
My 08 had all kinds of cooling issues and was still disappearing some where at 85k when I offed it.

If you want to complain about a truck own a 6.0! But I see alot of wear and tear stuff in these threads. The only real complaints should be radiators, def heater & turbo failures. Thats actually pretty good considering how much hardware is on your truck. All the emissions crud on these trucks. They seems to cause all kinds of problems.

Sorry to hear that your having some issues.

I guess I have been very fortunate, my truck has 116k now and the only thing I have done other than regular maintenance is replace rear brake pads about 3k mi ago. This is the best truck I have ever owned. I bought it new and drive it everyday, towing, highway, off-road.

Not trying to rub it in, just sharing my experience and the fact that these are great trucks!

I have been pretty lucky with the previous diesels including the 6.0. 10 years of driving it and an egr delete and oil cooler replacement. traded it with original brakes and rotors untouched from new.
My 7.3s were great but did replace a clutch master cylinder that failed after i drove across country to new England. that about killed me when i pushed the clutch in at an intersection and it never even tried to slw even with both feet on the brakes at that point. drove it right to a dealer and they changed it at no cost that day.
i bought my 2015 with the intent of driving it 10 years...we will see!

I've got over 500,000 miles on SD trucks split between a 2008 and a 2011. I've replaced several radiators and even blew a motor in the 2011.

I've never had an issue with brakes, air conditioning, or with the def system. I don't know what the rdtc is and I've never lost a wheel bearing or any other suspension part.

I hate to see anyone have issues like you're having but I also don't believe that these trucks are poorly built. Maybe the 2015 I now have will fall apart? Time will tell I suppose. I don't consider getting a new truck until I cross the 200,000 mile mark which takes me almost 4 years.

Crystal, I would appreciate that but I'm not sure how to PM you. Do I have to be a paying member to do that?
