Vacuum Plumbing Questions

With reguards to the stock 8RT engine in my 52 F6, I need some guidance on the following items:

1) Locating replacement 11/32? vacuum hose from the intake manifold to the firewall plumbing - the original (atleast to me, maybe even the truck) is cracking up and is no longer serviceable.

2) I need to replace the hard vacuum line for the distributor advance since the flare on the carb side broke off. How does one go about this?

11/32 power brake, DOT approved vacuum hose is common, and is standard on most all power brake equipped vehicles. The hose should be available at any of your better auto parts stores. The last chunk I got was from NAPA.

Taks all! I'll try my Napa again on the 11/32 power brake hose and getting Ford Nuts...

As for the Ford Nuts, I don't understand exactly how it ratains the line...

The Ford Nuts work by pushing the tapered end of the nut into the tapered seat in the carb body. That forces the nut's tapered end to cut into the tubing. It's really a type of compression fitting.

I got my ford nuts, but nobody has power brake line (and actualy, I think I need 15/32, not 11/32). Napa would only special order me a 50 foot spool for about a bazillion dollars. They suggested 1/2 inch heater hose, but that sounds troublesome and may collapse under the constant vaccume.

Pointers anyone?

Okay, I'm really frustrated - just a recap:

The vacuum line from the intake manifold to the metal tubing on the firewall has aged to the point where it is cracked wide open. I need to replace it. I believe I need to replace it with 15/32 power brake hose - Napa part Number NBH H1451. Napa will only sell me a 50 foot spool, way to much for my 12" run (and way to expensive for the pocket book!). The guy at the Napa counter recommended substituting 1/2" heater hose, but that is not DOT FMVSS 106 compiant.

I also visited AdvanceAuto, Autozone, PartsPlus and tey all just brught 1/2 fuel line, 1/2 transmission coller lines, or 1/2 heater hose lines out.

What am I missing (besides hose!)?

Looking in the parts CD, all I see is 1/2" hose used on brake boosters , tho it isn't real clear. NAPA and others should have 1/2" ID vacuum hose.

Nothing labeled Vacuum hose - I can get 1/2 flexible fuel line, 1/2 transmission cooling line, and 1/2 heater line by the foot. All of those are positive pressure applications, not negative pressure.

I had never heard of them before, but another member mentioned this place in another post this morning, they rebuild the old boosters and such, you might give them a call Home -

What does the hose routing look like? Can you replace it with steel line, with rubber fuel hose used to connect it on the ends?

Well it comes off the back of the manifold and connects to a check valve on the firewall so you have to have a certain amount of flex to it to allow for engine movement and vibration, plus it need the volume of a 1/2" ID line or pipe. My booster was bad so I disconnected mine, otherwise I'd be in the same position as my hose was pretty dry rotted too. It had a 1/2" metal line screwed into the manifold that the hose was clamped to, then the hose ran to check valve, it would be a pretty hard route to run by pipe, as you can see in the pics below.

I bypassed my booster a couple of years ago, I didn't think my hose was very good, but I went down to the barn and dug it up. It doesn't look as bad as I thought, but it sure must be old, as it's labeled Bendix BK Vacuum Hose. It is about 16" long and still attached to the fittings and short pipe to the manifold and the check valve. I was gonna hold onto it in case I ever decided to have the booster rebuilt or replaced but if you can't find one let me know and I'll send you this one.
