Last time it was on, about two months ago, the bidding went up to $4,517.89 and didn't meet the reserve. I think that would about the top price. Way too much work, IMO, to go much higher and still be feasible to restore it. Some of these sellers just don't realize what it takes to bring one of these back to life and how much it's worth once you do.

The back door is the deal stopper for me. If I was going to deal.
It's the back cargo door from a panel. It would take a lot of work
to make it fit I think.

Doesn't look like a panel truck door, at least not a '48-52. The window is too square there seems to be more less metal around the window than a panel truck door. I'd say they used two halves of a front door, maybe.

I went back and looked at the rear door again. From the pictures it looks like it completely fabricated, just like the solid left rear side of the cab. It looks like the rear door is wood framed with an outer steel skin. If it was made of two halves of a front door I'm sure the seem would be visible with all the rust on it. A good coach builder would have a good metal man who could form the window opening.

The last listing had it sold for over 5 grand. The deal must have fell through and now they're trying again. It's pretty far gone and will take a lot of work to bring back, and the current bid is probably fair money.

I don't think the back door was made from production parts. Even the top of the window frame looks to be a different shape, flatter, than the stock doors. i would think the whole thing was crafted by the coachbuilder at the time.

I suppose we could have read the description before commenting on the door:

The extended cab structure is made primarily of wood. The third door frame is also wood. As you can see, the hinges in the third door have pulled from the wood and will not let the door shut completely.
It also included the classic line,
"The previous owner claimed to have the truck running as recently as 2005. I have not tried to start the truck."
Every time I see a line like this in a description it says to me, "The engine is junk, and I know it's junk but if you ask me about it I won't have to tell you I know it's junk." Really, if it's not junk an hour or so with some gas and a good battery you should have it spitting over.

Bidding didn't go over $3K this time. I think this guy has to get a clue and realize this is not the one that is going to finance his retirement, way too much work and expensive parts to make it nice again and is it worth making nice? There would be a very limited market for a truck like this. Just from the bidding I would say this truck is worth around $2500-3000, at most.

I noticed the ad no longer says reserve not met. It appears ebay is now trying to make no sale listings appear sold. By looking at that now, it would lead me to believe the truck sold at $2850.

This is the same guy I bought my truck from

He is reasonable after the auction ends. I called him on mine and made a cash offer. HE himmed and hawed a bit but called me back 30 minutes later and took my firm price. Picked it up a week later and was as advertised.

Not a bad guy to deal with. We all want as much $$ as we can get for our "JUNK"

Wayne, if you click on "See original listing" it'll take you back to the original listed and there it is stated that the reserve wasn't met:

I totally understand wanting to get as much for our "Junk" as we can but you also have to be realistic and realize even if the item you're trying to sell is rare it doesn't mean it worth all that much. Just by looking at the pictures I can see there has to $30K+ of body work needed on it, then you could easily dump $10K in the drive train, especially if the front axle needs work, then add another $5K+. He want's $10K for the truck alone then add in another $40K, you've got $50K+ into the beast. Maybe on "reality" TV that makes sense but in real life that just doesn't work. There was a really nice M-H wrecker floating around Wisconsin a few years back, very nice, no rust, pretty much show quality truck. The price started at $20K, went down to $15K, the last time I saw it the price was around $12K. It was a lot nicer truck than this one.

There you go and that's how it's done!

Is this truck worth $10K? I don't know, but I do know you likely won't find another one.

IMO, it would be easier to build a COE crew cab from scratch than repair that rusty one. Wouldn't be "original", but.....
