1985 302 mfi, rod knocking

Found a '85 F150, clean body, transmission good, but the engine knocks. So I pulled the pan, found #1 and #5 rod bearing worn badly, put in standard bearing back in. Well it is still knocks , but not as hard as it was. I found an '84 donor truck with two 302's. Tore down the engine in the bed, had the block bored .030 over and had the crank turned .010/.010, new cam, lifters, pushrods, valve job. In the process of building it to replace the knocking engine. Here is my question, I would like to change out the ignition system with a Dura spark system, put not sure the impact on the fuel injection and computer. Any help will be appreciated.

A Duraspark II ignition and EFI/computer are mutually exclusive; you can have one or the other, but not a mixture of the two.

From the Sticky at the top of this forum (something you might want to look through before asking):

I look over the forum to find out if I could put a Dura spark on a fuel injection engine and didn't find any thing. Well I guess I'll have to stay with the thick film dist. I have a another '85 that I will Changing from a I6 to a V8 in. in the spring, I was going to change the dist. to a Dura spark system on the six. Thanks for the info.

The EFI computer uses the signals from the TFI ignition system for the timing and triggering of the injectors, and also verification that the engine is turning.

You've been on FTE for ~4 years yet have only 10 posts... this averages out to 2.5 posts per year... which means you are here only to absorb information, not to also pay back by helping others with what you know.

That's OK, and some of us here put a LOT of work into making certain, commonly-asked-for information more easily available by placing it in Stickies and Subforums... which makes it easier for people to find stuff.

And it's really discouraging for those who go through all that work to have people not take advantage of it....

I have been a member for 4 years and became a supporter so I can help FTE. I plan to enter more posts in the future to help with problems that I have encountered over the years of being a Shade tree mechanic.
