Brake Lights

About six months ago I changed the turn signal switch in my 1966 f100. Haven't had any issues until today when I discovered that my brake lights were not working. However the turn signals were. Any suggestions?? Could it be a fuse or a bad ground?

Since the turn signals use the same bulb filament, it isn't the bulb. I might check the wires at the master cylinder. There are two wires at the top, pull them, connect them, turn the ign sw on and see if the bulbs light up.

Yes then the that switch may be bad.

No keep looking at the front. Switch needs to be in on position. This may not apply to your truck but does mine.

Do you know if you have a plunger type switch at the brake pedal? If you see one it might just need to be adjusted, or replaced.

I checked the two wires at the master cylinder and one of them broke of at the plug. I think this is my problem. There is not enough left to splice; that being said is the female plug something I can find at an auto parts store or is it more hard to come by?

Michael:
If you want to stay with the original style 90-degree females, you won't find them except through an old parts supplier...they're vintage only. I have some if you want to go back into the brake light leg of the loom you can solder, heat shrink and re-wrap and make it look nice. If you want a pair, PM me your address and I'll send you a couple.

No 1961/66 has this type of switch, 1967 was the first year.

1961/66 switch either threads into the front of the master cylinder, or to a brass block that then threads into the master cylinder.

C1AZ-13480-A (replaced 0A-13480) .. Brake Lamp Switch (Motorcraft SW-24) / Available from Ford & autoparts stores.

Applications: 1940/66 myriad FoMoCo vehicles.
