Question on E-350 V10 Air Intake (OEM)

Hey guys, first post here. Just got a new to me 03 E-350 Van with the V10, so gonna have some questions here for a few days.

Just put a new air filter in the thing, and noticed something missing. The air "horn" I guess you could call it, where air enters the system and goes to the air filter, is gone. I attached a pic I found on the internet, its the item with the Ford logo on it. That piece is missing, so basically the end of the air filter is exposed.

I imagine this is a necessary piece and I should replace it? Id assume its sucking hot under-hood temp air instead of colder air from the front of the vehicle. Anyone have an idea of where I could get one, or anyone here go aftermarket and have their OEM stuff laying around?

On that note, is anything in the stock air intake system restrictive to the point where its worth it to go to an aftermarket intake system or any type of other intake mods necessary?

Thanks again.

Not sure about the restrictions but horizonpartsguy.com should be able to help or auto nation white bear lake ford. Both have pretty good online prices. Either one should be able to provide a part number for what you need to order on there website.

OEM p/n is: F7UZ-9A675-CA, list price $33.00 in 2010. That number might be superseded by now and certainly the price has increased but that should get you close.

One of those might be easily found laying around at a salvage yard, especially the DIY types.

Honestly that thing doesn't do a lot towards keeping the filter any more clean----its just an open tube that redirects incoming flow, possibly included to theoretically move the actual inlet flow in front of the radiator?

I'd run it but still not sure if its that vital.

I would worry about water - on my F-series, the air filter intake is placed behind the radiator support in such a way that it's almost impossible to get water in it. I'm sure the E-series is the same way.

On your van, driving in the rain, water will come through the radiator and get thrown around by the fan. That exposed filter intake will just suck the water right up.

At least, that's my thoughts on the subject.
