48 Steel's Built Thread

After 8 years the "Dern F1" is almost finished. So here is my last project.

I spent about 8 months looking for a good condition F1 and found this one in Alice, ND. The man that owned it was a friend of the original owner. When his friend passed away he bought it from the widow and I found it on the internet and had it shipped to my location. I drove this one off the trailer. It was a bit tricky with the custom seat.

I really like your choice of colors! I see you went away from the plastic lawn chair look for the interior!

Now the plan:

This was going to be my last project and it was to be, in part, the project that I never finished. In 1961 I started my first Hot Rod, a 1929 Ford Tudor.

After 3 years of work and Uncle Sam calling it never got finished. So, THIS 48 Ford project was going to be done the Old School way and Style as much as possible. I made the decision to keep this 48 ALL FORD.
Here is a Build list for this project:

First - Suspension: What was available at the local u-pull-n pay = 1980 XJ6 IFS but no IRS so a Lincoln Mark VIII would work.

"Dern F-1" sure is a beautiful truck, you should be proud. So will we be seeing Dern in Yuma?

You'll see me but not the "Dern F1" in 2015. The plan is to bring it down to AZ in October 2015 and will be at MATO, good Lord will'n and the creek don't rise, for the 2016 Show.

The only gas tank that I could find that would fit was out of the 1986-1988 Jeep Comanche. Minor modification to the frame and the fit works.

Next - Boxing the frame.

I left the front and rear, aft of the cab, intact. I made templates and had 10g plates made at local shop.

Next Radiator mount.
