Brake issue diagnosis assistance please
96 F150 xl 302 automatic is the vehicle, Issue:
Brake light came on last week, had no pressure issue at the time, pad was still firm. I noticed that the e-brake cable hod got more slack that usual so I thought it might be the sensor at the top of the e-brake pedal assembly but even after clamping the cable tight up to the pedal the light stays on and is followed shortly by the ABS light. All lines are sound, replaced after failures in the last 2 years, there is no grind, front pads are new. Today the brake pedal was much softer and traveled further.
There does not seem to be a leak so I am thinking that my rear drums might be wearing too thin.
Any one have any other ideas?
Thanks for your input,
Phil

Could be as simple as not enough brake fluid, but most likely it's a poor connection of the plug on the side of the master cylinder or the float inside the master cylinder is stuck. Clean the connector and apply a little dielectric grease to the plug and reinstall. If that doesn't do it, take a clean screwdriver and bob the float in the master cylinder reservoir up and down a bit and see if that does anything for the lights.
