i just fixed it. it was the negative coil wire , under the cap was fray and shorting against the points, i made new wire and it fired right up.

I just got off the phone with the local speed shop and ordered a Pertronix electric ignition conversion kit, $85 it will be here Thursday.

Thanks for the help Men !

The pertronix is easily one of the best mods I've done to my truck.

Yes, timing shouldn't change much, only a few degrees if any. But it should be checked and reset.

Ignition is installed and runs great. I had to move the distributor to adjust timing. Idel is a little higher than with points .

Should I back off a hair on the distributor? I timed it by ear !

Thanks

If idle was higher with points, then your timing probably needs to be increased now.

Well, I suggest finding a timing light and setting it to about 10-12*.

O'reilly has a decent one for $40.

You don't need a fancy digital one with a bunch of different functions.

One thing i noticed when i installed the igniter the arm coming into the distributor from that vacuum thing on the front was hitting the igniter i had to push it in, i don't know if in moves in and out but if does it will hit the igniter when it pushes into the distributor. truck seems to run great so i dont know.

the hose goes to the carb from the vac thing. thanks

One thing about the Pertronix is they engineer them to (mostly) be plug and play. There shouldn't be any need to drill holes or modify anything nor any interference problems. The instructions will indicate exactly what steps to take.

Yes, I read that in the instuctions. But my truck is 40 years old, the engine is not original. so who knows that has been changed over the years.

i do know the distributor part number is the one that goes with my engine..

it is a work in process . i am going to get a timing light and double check the part number on my new igition to make sure i have the correct one,i am pretty sure it is correct tho. thanks
