Upgrades

i have a 1993 explorer sport and i was wondering if there were any quality performance chips or tuners that actually work? i would really like to give my truck some more horse power and fuel efficiency. Thank you

Problem is that it's a 93, which makes it OBDI. Those systems are less frequent to find tunes for. You can't re-flash the ECU. What engine though? If it's shared with a Stang, then you can work around those roadblocks.

Superchips and I think one other manufacturer made a piggyback performance module that plugged in to a service port on the PCM of that vintage of Ford. I'm not sure if they made one for the 4.0L or not (I used one in my '93 Taurus SHO). You might see if Superchips is still around and what they offer.

my friend has a tuner, what if i get a obd-I to obd-II adapter, would that work?

No. The obd1 systems are non-programmable. The piggybacks override the factory unit for what they tune. I was briefly looking into this kinda thing for my Ford into Nissan swap. I found an obd2 full EFI system I plan to use instead.
