Just picked this up for $125 Came off truck with 300-6.
Looks like the right one to swap onto my 351C.
I may need to drop the engine and tranny to make it fit
In my 1972 F100. This is the tranny everyone here has been recommending.

Now to start accumulating parts and try to figure out how to do the swap.
Hardest part will probably be the hydraulic clutch install.

Suggestions are welcome. I am on a strict budget.
The throwout bearing and clutch shift assembly is missing.
Plus need flywheel (164 tooth) clutch (11") and pressure plate.
Also clutch pedal and everything to connect it to the tranny.

 

Your off to a good start on the swap. Got the trans for a great price. I am using the same trans except for a 460 in my 66 crew cab. The hydraulic clutch is simple if you can fabricate alittle bit. Are you going to do a step by step with pics install? I haven't seen anyone make a thread for just the zf install that I know of. Where will the shifter be located at on the floor? Know if it will interfere with the bench seat or not?

 

Interesting that it came off a 300-6. I didn't know you could get that combination. Since we can't see the other side, did you get a 91 or older with the speedo drive?
I don't know anyone who used a zf on a 351C so I'm not sure what will be required as far as clutch. I put one on an older 300 and used the clutch from the 351W that the tranny was bolted to in a 92 F250.

 

The transmission is taller than stock so either the tunnel needs to be raised or the tranny lowered. I will be installing floor shift as it is a top loader. It will be at least spring before I start but it was a good deal on the tranny so grabbed it while I could. Yes I will be posting pics as I go. Its out of a 88 - 91 F150 or 250 so the seat will not be an issue.

 

Which tunnel cover does your truck have? Maybe a switch to the taller 4 speed one is all you'll need.

 

Mine has a 7 tooth speedo drive. Will have to see about the taller tunnel size.
It would be a lot easier if it works, or if I can find one.

 

Hyd clutch install. Not hard, but tedious!

 

Measure location for hole then pull pedal assembly and drill! Used 1/2" bolt if I remember. Just fits nice inside hole from link arm!





Firewall doubled walled so no upgrade needed for firewall work.

Looks like you'll probably need to convert to hydralic booster to have room for the clutch m/c.

 

I put mine outside the bracing:

i just welded in a grade 8 1/2" bolt after putting it through a hole in the clutch pedal arm, and used shaft collars on either side of the clutch pushrod to keep it from sliding around.
IIRC, it was 2 11/16" down the pedal arm.
The ZF fits under the tunnel just fine, it's taller because the countershaft is larger, the centerline is still in the same spot. You will need a new hole in the cover, but a 4speed cover fit just fine over mine. The output even landed in the same spot as the old 4speed, it was kinda weird.
As far as a flywheel, was that engine a neutral balance or offset like the Windsors?

 

Wyoming4x4 once again your truck turned out great. I like everything about it. Here's some of my hydro setup for more ideas.

 

From what I am reseaching, any 69 - 80 302 or 69 - 96 351W or 300-6 flywheel should work on my Cleveland. If this is correct, it should be easier to find a good used one. 28oz 164 tooth

 

The 300 was a zero balance, so you want the 351W truck one then.
New flywheels are available from O'Reillys.
