F-150 purchase advice

2012 5.0 with a 3.55 limited slip. Lariat with leather heated/cooled seats. Super Crew with a 6.5' bed. The truck now has nearly 48,000 miles on it, but the mileage is still 19.1. I bought it new after Christmas 2012 and got nearly 10K off the over 42K sticker. If some other engine trans combo has pulled out an equal or better mpg over that many miles, I've not seen it.
If you can change your display to the metric read out of litres per 100 km. You will read around 11.3. That will translate out to about 19.5 mpg US or 24.7 mpg imperial.

American or Canadian. US gallon is 3.7 ltrs. Canadian gallon is 4.4 ltrs. That would account for the change.

Canadian mpg looks like a bigger number because of our bigger gallon is all. It's actually the same mileage, it's just a number.

Thanks for the info everyone.
I came into this thinking I would get a 5.0, but based on what I'm seeing here, I will not rule out an ecoboost V6. (After all the V-6 beatings over in an Explorer forum, I was conditioned to think a V-8 would be far superior.)
I'm also glad to hear that I have a decent chance of finding an XLT with the equipment I want (original post).
All of this gives me more trucks that possibly meet my criteria .... maybe that just makes it tougher to decide !
Thanks again.

I recently just went through the same process with myself between 5.0, Eco or even 5.4. I came to realize, I'm really more concerned with whether or not the rest of the truck is what I want/expect. I was exactly like you as far as needs...hunting, fishing, firewood, home projects, etc. Reasons that always made you say "man if only I had a truck right now...".
I ended up with the 3.5 Eco because it was the right price, right time and had all the right pieces and parts I wanted. My old fear was rooted in the off chance that a turbo failed, but I think the turbos of 2014 vs. the turbos of older vehicles are a night and day difference, so I'm at ease in that regard.
The Eco, 5.0 or 3.7 v6 are all great options for the average pickup user in my opinion. I'd look more at the inside and options
And best advice would be go and drive those 3 options in a relatively comparable trim to what you are looking for. That was a big help for me. You and your right foot will learn what you like and don't like about each engine really fast.

I just purchased a 2014 F150 with the ECOboost option after having a 98 Exped with 5.4 V8 since new. Most of my coworkers and friends with F150's all have the 5 liter V8. What swayed me toward the Ecoboost is my experience with turbo boosted engines. I have two Volvos, one with a 2.4L 5 cyl naturally aspirated engine and the other with the 2.5L 5 cyl turbo engine, basically the same engines. With the turbo boosted engine the fuel economy and acceleration is better and I like the idea of the power being there when needed. I did not like the price tag of the ECOboost option but then again I don't buy new vehicles very often.
