Recon cab lights

It seems that more and more people are starting to go for the smoked look on their trucks so I thought I would post a review of Recon smoked cab lenses and their different bulbs. Together, a buddy and I purchased the following recon products from Amazon:

1. Recon smoked cab light replacements.( PN 264142BK) This kit cost $33 and included 5 smoked cab lights and 5 amber bulbs.

2. Recon T-shaped LED amber bulbs. (PN 264180AMX) This cost $50 and included 5 LED amber colored bulbs. This was supposedly the middle class of lights- in-between the free amber bulbs included with the smoked lenses and the other LED bulb listed below.- 1 watt bulb

3. Recon T-shaped LED amber bulbs (PN 264280AMX) This cost $81 and was very similar in design the the bulb listed previoiusly. (yes, look closely and you will see that this is a different PN than the last bulb) This bulb is supposed to be Recon's top of the line bulb due to its significantly larger wattage-and for the price I would have hoped so! This bulb requires 3 watts as opposed to the one watt of the previous bulb.

Now for the review: attached is a picture of the different light combinations on my truck. From right to left is: Most expensive T-shaped LED with smoked lense, middle class T-shaped LED with smoked lense, the free amber bulb (came with smoked lenses) with smoked lense, and the 2 left lights are both factory bulbs with factory lenses.

The from brightest to dimmest, the lights were: middle class LED bulb, more expensive high class bulb, factory bulbs, and then of course, recons free bulb that came with the lenses. Both the middle class and high class bulb had 6 LEDs per bulb- 3 in front and 3 to the rear. Both come with a 90 day warranty. In the end, it appears that the more expensive bulb is not necessarily the better one. As you can see, if you are planning to purchase recon cab lights the middle class bulb is the way to go

Good evaluation!

Thanks for taking the time to compare and share! I have the Atomic LED cab lights and 3 of the 5 have some if not entire boards of LEDs going out, so I was looking at Recon and couldn't decide which lights would be better. Your write-up was a huge help!

Looks like I'll be replacing the lights with stock lights and going with clear lenses and the mid-grade t-shaped bulbs. I'll put Whelen Vertex LEDs in for the warning light function while plowing.

I went with the more expensive ones myself cause I like the amber look, but wanted smoked lenses, Im glad I did. Thanks for the review and the visual reps sent.

FYI...

I stupidly bought a set of the Recon amber lenses as well, so if anyone wants them they can have them, just PM me your address, these are for OEM cab lights not the Recon A/M kit.
