Miss injector at start up only.

Hello all..
Keep getting a code. It's Cylinder 4.. balance / contribution. .
Once the truck is heated up and I clear the code it won't come back till the next morning. I live in florida and temps are not that cold in the am. When I do start the truck you can hear the miss and it does sound hard. I always let the truck idle till the oil is up to driving temps. I am runny t6 and arcoil as well as diesel kleen.
Question is.. do I replace the injector yet? I don't want to mess up a piston or rod. The miss only last for a couple minutes in the morning. After that.. The truck runs great.

Either remove the injector and polish the spool and re-ring or replace.

Stiction can happen on 100 degree cold starts too.

I've read about alliant injector ring kits and getting the old varnish of the spools. I've watched some vids on it. I've torn whole motors down.. doing it looks pretty basic as in could do in a day. I'm not a ford mechanic per say but ain't afraid to turn a wrench.
Thoughts on a diy project?

Ok.. did the fcim test today. 48.5 on everything. Key on, cranking, and running.
So that seems perfect. Order the alliant kit and thinking about pulling the cups while I have everything else out.
Is there anything else I should consider doing while the injectors are out?

thanks again all.. your help is very much appreciated!

IMO the two most important things when installing an injector, 1 blow out the bolt hole good with shop air, 2 torque to 26-28 ftlbs.

My theory on FICM's is too controversial.

No, no threads.

This is just my opinion but I think others will agree.

I believe there was a design flaw when the FICM was engineered for International. There are some poor solder joints and some components that will fail. When they start to fail sometimes the output voltage will drop.

I believe that most stock Ford FICM's will fail eventually, it's just a matter of time.

If you check out FICM repair web site he has a quote "There are two types of FICM's, ones that fail, and ones that are going to fail" I am a believer in this.

It's not a big deal to have it repaired/upgraded, you can even do it yourself if you know how to solder.

All that being said I don't think that is your problem. You have a balance code for one cylinder. This sounds like a bad injector to me.

I hear you. I have been on the fcim repair site and did read that quote.

I to believe it's just a matter of time.

As to my injector. Do you think cleaning it (going to do all) will fix the issue or do you think I'm wasting my time and just replace it. I know your not sitting here listening to the truck. It runs perfect as soon as it's warmed up. It's just for the first min. Or two that you can hear a miss here and there. I was thinking stiction and cleaning the spools and making sure the 6 holes in each nozzle was working properly it might fix the problem.

If it is for a minute or 2 it is more than likely stiction and the spool valve polishing will fix it best I can tell from reading but I may have missed it--is it a dead miss or noisy rough idle on cold start?
