No problems with overheating. The temp gauge will move from 160 to 190 if I pull a long hill while loaded down, but never goes over that. I do have an issue with not getting hot enough though. Put in a new thermostat, but still doesn't get warm enough in the winter months.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Hi 79Supercab,
Just found your thread today. Great job, nice to see another one actually being used.
RE: the thermostat. I had the same problem with mine until I started using a genuine Cummins 'stat. Now I run 190 summer/winter towing/empty. They cost a bit more, but work much better.
Again, great job, and enjoy that thing.

Finally upgraded to hydroboost. What a difference. Used one out of a early 2000's F350 (can't remember which year). It wasn't a "bolt" on like I had read a few places. Come to find out I didn't get the correct HB off the correct year. Oh well.
I could have bolted it directly to the firewall but the pushrod would have been about 1.5" too long. So I built a spacer bracket out of 1/4" plate. Also the push rod was directly inline with the brake pedal, so I ended up being able to space the HB over the drivers side just enough so the pushrod lined up wiht the side of the pedal. Works great.
My pedal is a little higher than I'd like. I've heard that the pre '99 superduty HB's have a shorter pushrod. I may look for one of those.
$50 into the HB
$80 in hoses
Out with the old:
Bare firewall:
New version (less mods):
With new spacer bracket:
Installed (didn't get a pic with new hoses):
It sits about an inch away from the Fuel solenoid:
