I just bought a 79 crew short box (flat bed actually) and I have a 1st gen 12 valve with a s300 turbo and 75 horse injectors. Not high horse power but I got it! Anyway the truck is gonna get ARB axles (60's) that I already have and they have 4.56 gears. Tire size should be 36-39". I plan on a ford automatic and would like your input as the type. I'd like a 5r100 but know little about the stand alone computers and how they work. It would be a daily driver not a puller or anything. It currently has a good 460 and a c6 205 combo. Any advise would be appreciated. I've helped build a supercab Cummins nv4500. 241 combo but would rather have an automatic. And I'd have to use a ford transmission. I have several of these trucks and familiar with them. 5r100, 4r100?? If you have any experience with the please share. Thanks
I am sure it has been done by someone, just not everyone. So hang in to get the advice you are looking for.
I know a guy that put a none turbo Ford diesel in a 4wd 79 F250 and took out the C-6 and tried to use a electronically controller trans. Never could get it to work properly, he is now back to using a C-6.
I used the the 47Rh from my 95 donor Dodge donor when I did my conversion. It works fine for a daily driver. I had it rebuilt with a single disc TC, and I haul a camper and tow my early Bronco on a trailer about 4-5 times a year. It's done fine for 2 years now.
