removing the wood from my bed.

I want to replace the wood in the bed of my truck. It's a 1953 Ford F-250.
I am wondering about the procedure and steps. It looks rather simple. Take a bunch of bolts out. Maybe some of you can offer some advice on this? Do I have to take the whole box off of the truck and the fenders? Thanks
Sparkdog.

pretty much will come out. The two outer pieces do support the bed sides, so I wouldn't remove those until you are ready to put new pieces in.

Also, you will probably get more answers by starting a new thread.

Thanks, they are late model mustang wheels, 18" x 10" nothing too crazy. I needed a 1.5" hubcentric wheel spacer to get them to clear the bed. They just barely fit in the stock wheel well. About a 1/5" clearance in each direction.

Thanks guys. I am hoping the paint will be done this spring. Ordered up all new glass and seals. 53 style tail lights, new marker lights etc...
Wish I could find a chrome 51-52 front grill piece that didn't cost two arms and two legs. I am thinking of just painting them bright silver or possibly just jet hot coating them.

you don't have to take the fenders off but you should and then remove the box. set it up on saw horses so you can get underneath and have at it.

Started playing with my no good useless red oak bed wood.

Step one sanded with 120, 220, and then water based stain... gasp. Stain.

Renewing the bed of my truck

Thanks to Ryan and Jonf on their comments on renewing my bed. Taking it off sounds like an easier way to get at everything. How much does it weigh? I would take the fenders off first.

Ryan, the boards look great. What type of varnish will you use to seal them? Did you mill the wood yourself or buy them that way?

Thanks for the offer, but that is a pic of the truck as purchased last October. I saved the grill and it is in really great condition! If you find a chrome 51-52 one for a reasonable price let me know as I would jump on that.

That's looking really good.

I think you have your rear lamp bracket upside down.
