P0303 code replace #3 only or all in the rear bank

I have an 05 V6 Escape Limited with 92K miles throwing a P0303 code. I am having the shop replace the #3 coil and all new spark plugs since they are due in 8K miles. Should I also have them replace the other coils on the rear bank while the intake manifold is off, or should the other two last? I have no idea of the normal service life of the coils.

thx

There's no set service life for the coils. They work right up to the point where they don't.

Replacing the two coils will run you another $100+ in parts expense for no reliable assurance of service longevity (even "new" coils can fail). But, it it makes you feel better and you can sleep at night with the new coils, then do as you wish. Keep the old coils for spares.

Thanks for the response. You're right. I will probably just replace the one and see how it goes.

If you have low miles then I wouldn't but when I was in there a couple of years back to replace one (at around 180k) I did all three. Kept the two that were good to go on the front.

Update: I had to replace two

Update: Firestone called and said after they replaced the #3 coil another code came up for #5, so they replaced that one as well. I also had them replace all 6 spark plugs since it was only 8K miles away from the service. They also said that at some time #4 was replaced as it was not a motorcraft coil.

thanks,
Bobby
