oil

Hello one and all. I have read many threads about the oil weight in the 5.4 3valve tritons. I have a 05 and was thinking about changing to 10w30. Would this be a good idea. btw it has 180k.
Thank you for any and all riplies,

If you are having no oil-related engine problems and have been using Motorcraft 5W20 all-along, you shouldn't change anything.

True that. Stick with the 5W20 semi-syn. and don't go long on the change intervals. I change mine every 5-6000 mi. and have a smooth running, quiet engine.

If you run 10w30 oil you'll starve the valve train of lubrication. The oil passages are too small for 10w30 to flow properly to the top end of the engine. Stay with 5w20 synthetic blend or full synthetic with Motorcraft oil filters with change intervals at 3000-5000 miles depending on use.
