This holds the cargo door open. What's the proper description for these?

Maybe a door limiter?

It serves the purpose of a limiter but also provides friction.

Why don't they work? I'm on my 4th E-Series of various years and when properly maintained they work just fine.

Of course with so many mechanical things they are prone to wear so when/if they wear out and no longer function as needed its time to replace them. Sadly nothing lasts forever.......................

I dont know why they dont work , I grease them but they are very hard to close which causes the bolts that hold them to loosen . I have tightened and loctited them but they still loosen . I finally gutted them so they keep the doors from swinging open but they dont hold them open .

A new set is one my list ( a long list I may add) I guess twenty years of use did them in.

I've found dozens of those in the DIY salvage yards and not a bit hesitant to snag a set if they're needed.

Hard to tell why you're having problems with them especially if you lube them, along the tang that slides inside the door shell. Then again if they are bent that could cause their attaching bolts to come loose.

New are still available because all doors from '92 until today are the same.

Exactly ..I have like 5 or 6 spares of them at least...when they wear out the door closes with a whif of wind.....I have Plywood over everything so it might take me 5-10 minutes to swap them out ....But if you have a truck like mine ( Read Construction/Roofing) then you need them ...especially when you are Humping Bundles or Plywood out of the truck....I also NEVER had one get loose ...mine just wear out .....

What is anyone's favorite lubricant for this & why do you like it? Mine sound like a seal when I open my back doors.

Now that's a new sound description if I ever heard one!

I've used anything that'll resist heat because you want it to cling to the "slider" in order to stop the noises. Chassis lube or something similar works just fine.

With the door fully open smear enough on the top and bottom of the slide, move the door through its motion several times to distribute the lube.

If you need or want to unlatch the slide so the door open fully be a bit careful to avoid getting the lube on the very end.
