It is funny how everyone loves the 351 Cleveland and how much power it makes, but when you start talking about the 400 which uses basically the same head design it is nothing more than a boat anchor. I am pretty sure that my old 78 Bronco with a slightly modded 351m will pull most any Bronco with a slightly modded 351w. And I know for a fact it will pull a load better.

I understand people like 400's and I'm not bashing them but I have absolutely no interest or desire to own another one and refuse to put one in my truck. The might be a great motor with some work but the two I owned definitely didn't impress me or make me want to run out and ****** one up to build. Plus I'm looking for cheaper and larger aftermarket support it just makes more since to go Windsor in my situation.

I've had a couple of 302s in Dents. I have a couple of 390s. I have a 351M in a 79 4x4 and I have a 351W in a 95 4x4. My favorite is the 390 for low end torque. The 302s did OK and with dual exhaust sounded pretty cool. I wouldn't say that my 302s could even get up into the 5k RPM range. None of these engines were seriously built. I'm not sure I could get my 95 up to 5K rpm. One hassle of going with 351W might be getting headers that fit as the 351 Windsor wasn't ever installed in dentsides. I will say that I get better gas mileage with the 390 than I got with the 302's. But then I suspect you don't care about gas mileage. I will say that in my 2wd truck I had to swap the engine perches for the 302s

. The 351W's ran pretty good in '69-'70... then no more 4 bbls. in cars (some in trucks), taller deck heights, lower compression ratios, smaller valves did them in... till the EFI ones when some of that was re-corrected... ditto for 302's... some rated like 125 HP... till they got the GT40P heads in about, what, 1990? That about doubled their power and/or MPG...

I've driven my dad's 100% stock 351w in a 95 and it actually surprised me on how well it moved the truck but also feels very choked up when you stand on it hard. I am always open to input and don't mean to offend anyone about the 335 series they just aren't for me.

. Yeah, the stock EFI ram tubes and cam in 351W trucks is prolly set up for good low to mid RPM torque... won't rev much... Chevy TPI 350" SBC and Dodge EFI barrel manifold 360" act the same way...
