sob. .. now I know why he sold me the truck!
Tricky folk out there... I do take blame as I didn't do the research I should of as I'm super busy running a business.
So I've posted about doing the egr delete and oil cooler the other day as I know the 6.0 has problems and just picked up this truck with knowing now that it will take some money to get it "bulletproof per say"
Noticed 3 days after I bought the truck that the degas bottle was losing coolant but never saw a leak so I pulled the egr valve to clean and noticed a little fluid. Guy on here told me to do the smell taste so that was in my plans this week as I didn't have time today. Well.. here's what the tricky seller did...
I noticed today after truck sat for an hour I had a coolant leak... good size puddle on the ground. I was thinking great.. I'm about to find the leak. Got under truck and was no looking at a sob patch job. The tranny lines where out of the radiator and "u" together so the tranny fluid was not being cooled.
The plugs where they went were leaking drip.. drip.. drip. Got thinking why no leaks when I bought it. Well.. The coolant was leaking into the tranny fluid hence the fresh tranny fluid in truck. So prior to purchase he drained the coolant out of the tranny cooler portion and it took a few days... drip drip drip to fill back up to start leaking on the ground. So now I need a new radiator and the tranny lines that go to it. Sob!
Should I go with oem or an aftermarket all aluminum deal. I've seen all aluminum for around 500$
Any thoughts or other things I need to look at because of this crap repair would be nice as I'm a noob on the 6.0... I'm for sure pulling trans pan and doing motorcraft filters once I get parts together. Just parking the truck till it all gets here, just need to hear thoughts... Thank you in advanced! Sorry so long.. just venting. . Sob!

now I'm thinking. .. would putting in good plugs and an aftermarket tranny cooler be better or even an option?

Ford sometime in 05 came out with a external tranny filter that mounts in the front of the radiator even a aftermarket would be better than the no cooler you have now.
I do not know how much they are but certainly cheaper than a whole radiator. You might try just plugging with good plugs and use a external cooler.

That is why I made this post. It was proven to me I was wrong.

You need the two coolers and the external filter.
Your other option to the filter is to change the pan
and internal filter to the late 2008 unit. But you still
need the coolers. the Torqshift works hard and will
need the cooling.
If you go with a used one you can save some cash and get all the needed parts.
But I would take it into a transmission shop and have them flush both coolers.
Here is that filter and some of the lines.
