How many people still have stock TTY head bolts?

Like the title says.....and are you tuned or stock, mileage would be good too for comparison.

Why do you want to know you ask? I would like to know what the percentage is for the TTY head bolts on the trucks owned by people on this site and what if anything they have done to get (or not get) to where they are now. I still have a stock 6.0 with 119,000 on the clock I don't tow regularly just during camping season which is about 4 months here in Maine, other than that I use the truck very little for anything other than pleasure cruising.

I still have the TTY bolts in mine, 06' 105,000 miles, I bought it with 75,000 miles on it and ran with the canned SCT 65HP tow tune until august of this year when emissions test time came and I put it to the trans only tune with the EGR shut off and just been to lazy to put the tune back on it. I also only tow during camping season.

Thanks for the reply, I am having such good luck wiyh my engine I'm hesitant to do anything too it. I also don't have anyone around me that own the 6.0 or work on them. You say you have your EGR turned off? what exactly does that mean? is the EGR cooler still on the engine and does it still have coolant circulating thru it? If so will it still fail if it gets hot enough and by turning it off does that eliminate that from happening? sorry for all the questions but I really would like to know Thanks in advance.

I have 186K on stock TTY bolts and up until the other day I had my original EGR cooler. It never failed. I replaced the STC fitting on the HPOP (failing), dummy plugs(one had failed) and ended up having to remove the intake. I welded plugs into mine. There are mixed opinions on doing it that way but I had not budgeted for the kits. I just now started using the SCT tuner with Gearhead tunes to turn off the CEL. Stock with towing tune. I purchased the 3 combo tunes for non studded. Getting it to this point has been not too hard. OEM Filters, quality fuel from a high use station and exactly the fluids it asks for. There have been some head scratchers but there are a lot of smart people on here.

175,000 and currently running PHP tunes 80hp DD, 65hp Tow and 140X with Atlas 40 on the FICM. No egr cooler and I monitor everything. If the bolts were the problem this thing would have blown long ago. Keep up with the maintenance and watch your temps and you will be fine.

Truck in my sig. No studs, no tunes. Almost 170k mi. Did the oil/EGR coolers and STC fitting around 130k. Other than cold start/stiction issues it runs well.

Thanks for the replies guys, I do keep up on all maintenance and use strictly Motorcraft and/or racor filters, and change things out when the gurus on here say it should be done, the only thing I am sticking with for now that many say is not a good thing to do is I am sticking with Ford Gold with scheduled drain and replace until I see a reason (from my engine) not to, so far that hasn't happened. Great Deltas and zero foreign materials in my water filter.

Everything is still intact, the only thing turning the EGR off does is stop the EGR valve from opening and yes it could still fail but the chances are less likely.

105k still has the stock TTY bolts, although I do have everything to complete the installation of studs. I run the Atlas 40 with custom SCT tunes by Matt.

Thanks, when you say 'turn it off' do you mean unplug it? and if so on our 05 to 07 trucks doesn't this throw a CEL or a code?

I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. Zerex G-05 is the same coolant and is sold at Napa.

'06 with 110,000 miles and TTY bolts. I'm the second owner, bought at 93,000. She is all stock other than I switched to ELC coolant and added a coolant filter from XDP. No tunes. I don't tow yet, but plan on it in the future. I follow the regular maintenance that is recommended here. Temp spreads are holding steady at around 8*. I have the blue spring sitting in my garage. Haven't had the time to tackle that yet.

I'm quickly approaching 150,000. No tune, stock bolts. Heads were off once by Ford at an unknown mileage but I think it was around 30,000 mi. I've owned it for the past 50 thousand miles.
