Which Engine Should I choose for a 2015 Escape/

The lack of a basic 2.5 liter four cylinder in the Escape or Fusion in a top level trim edition has me looking at other brands. I want something simple to work on and that has very good reliability. I don't consider turbos to be trouble free over the long haul and there is not any room to work under the hood when you have a turbo. I might have possibly purchased my last Ford.

Although not the top trim level, the SE can be had with the normally aspirated 2.5 engine. Some dealerships may tell you otherwise. The NA engine may be available in the Titanium, I don't know. Extras on the SE can vary. I wanted the NA engine but had to go with the EB to get leather and 201A pkg, I believe it was. A happy wife was more important than the engine............unless the EB engine makes for an unhappy wife in a year or so.

2.5L is great
Bought the wife a base model with the 2.5L on Valentine's day of this year. White exterior and no options. We both love it. I was leery of the turbo models though I do hear that the 2.0L is a blast to drive. As someone who traded in a vehicle with 239K miles on it's non turbo engine... I kind of prefer non turbo models.
Anyway... we have had NO issues with the 2.5L. It is not fast by any means, but it is smooth and our MPG is pretty darned good on the highway. Around town we are in the low 20s. One of the posts noted that there was not much info to be found on the 2.5L and they were right. It seems that Ford offers this engine in the Escape as a budget buster option only and does not promote it at all. I've only seen a few base models on the road though they continue to sell well. Bizarre. Anyway I think that Ford has hit a home run with the new Escape and the 2.5L model(s) are worth the test drive. Good luck.
